How to prepare a freight enquiry
A useful freight enquiry starts with clear shipment details. A few checked facts make it easier to compare options and reduce follow-up questions.
Origin and destination mean more than a city name
Provide full collection and delivery addresses, including postcodes. Add warehouse opening hours, contact details and any restrictions on vehicle access. Mention a fixed loading appointment in the initial enquiry. The availability of a loading dock or forklift can also affect planning.
Measure the cargo after packing
For each package, provide length, width, height and gross weight. Measurements should include the pallet and protective packaging. Add the package count, cargo type and whether it can be stacked. A photograph of the packed goods can help explain the shape of the shipment, but does not replace measurements.
Distinguish a preferred date from a deadline
State when the cargo will be ready and whether delivery has a firm deadline. If you have flexibility, give an acceptable date range. Report special requirements, such as temperature sensitivity or batteries, from the outset. This allows transport suitability and any further information needs to be checked before confirmation.
